Early career researchers are important to La Trobe and there are significant resources available to support them. More initiatives are currently in development.
Calendar of EventsRED offers a number of skills development classes and information sessions for La Trobe University research staff and HDR scholars. Use the colour coding legend at the top of the 2013 Calendar of Events [PDF 945KB] to locate information about sessions specificially for HDR Supervisors, Early Career Researchers, HDR Scholars, Academic Staff and Academic Researchers. Early Career Researcher Development program 2013
In 2013 La Trobe University will conduct the Early career Researcher Development Program (ECRD) organized by the RED team in Research Services.
Program Structure
The program takes a blended learning approach and includes:
- Membership of the ECR Network
- Targeted ECR workshops
- Moodle site with resources
ECR Network
The ECR network will be established in March at a launch hosted by the DVCR. ECRs will be invited to form a committee and decide on a program. The RED Unit will provide support to engage speakers, manage advertising and provide funding for refreshments.
Information Resources
Early career researchers will be enrolled into the RED Moodle site linked to the RED website to access a range of online resources. The online sites have been reviewed to be consistent with research practices at La Trobe.
Skill Development Workshops
Two full day skills workshops will be held in March and April 2013 covering the following topics. The workshops will be conducted by Professor Alan Johnson - see 2013 Calendar of Events [PDF 954KB] for further information. Workshops will be interactive and provide practical tools and tips for strategic research career planning.

Day 2 Grant Devleopment
- Understanding your funding targets
- Designing impact into projects
- Managing interdisciplinary partnerships
- Team writing and authorship

Attendance at the workshops will require registration and some pre-reading. Feedback on CVs will be presented.
Thinkwell Workshops
Three workshops directed at research career development will be conducted by the Thinkwell team in April.
