Research Grants UnitSubmission of Applications for FundingBack to Advice and Procedures Academic members of staff should submit all grants to the funding body through Research Services. In general, when we advertise a scheme we will ask for draft applications to be submitted 5-10 working days before the granting body deadline. This allows us time to read through your application, the granting body instructions and conditions on completing the application and to provide you with feedback about where the application does not conform to the guidelines and suggestions on how it might be improved. If you require additional time to complete your proposal, please contactCatherine Jaggs (ext. 1836).
When draft applications are submitted to us they should be accompanied by a Research Services Coversheet. This is an internal document that serves several purposes: it clearly identifies the contact details of the person responsible for the application; it summarises all the relevant information for the La Trobe University Research Database; and it provides evidence that the Head of your School is aware of and supports your application. Applications may not be submitted to a granting body without this evidence of the Head of School support. The Research Services coversheet can be downloaded and saved on your hard drive or obtained from the Research Grants Unit Team. If you are not at the Bundoora Campus, draft applications may be faxed (03 9479-1464) or e-mailed to the Research Grants Unit Team for checking. Research Services staff will advise you by e-mail of any alterations to be made before submitting the original application. Where the institution calls for the signature of the Head of Institution, this section is to be signed by Ms Marian Obenchain, Director Research Services and not by the Dean, the Head of School, Chairperson of the Department, or the Head of the Division. Clearances Required:If a funded research project involves human or animal subjects, use of radiation, or recombinant DNA approval of the relevant University Ethics Committee is required before research funds can be released. Advice on projects involving use of radiation is available from the University Radiation Safety Officer, Mr Gary Nolan (ext. 1186).
