Research Ethics and IntegrityAnimal Research EthicsLegislation and codes:The following links refer to legislation and information on regulations related to Animal Ethics: Commonwealth GovernmentThe National Health and Medical Research Council is the federal authority responsible for regulations regarding the use of animals in research and teaching. The Office of the Gene Technology Regulator develops regulations and provides advice regarding genetic modifications of animals. The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry deals with all aspects of plant and animal safety. The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service provides information on the import / export of animals and tissue and issues relevant permits. State GovernmentAnimal Health and Welfare as administered by the Department of Primary Industries, Victoria.. Links to relevant Acts and Statutory Rules (Regulations) such as the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, the National Parks Act, the Wildlife Act and the Fisheries Act, etc. Use the bookshelf at the bottom of the page to navigate between the Acts.
