Human Research Ethics

Introducing the New Human Ethics On-line System

A new Human Ethics On-line System will be coming soon. All content on the Human Ethics website will move to a dedicated SharePoint site on this date. The link to the SharePoint site will be available on the Human Ethics website in the near future.

The following, additional changes will apply to Human Ethics Review:

Introduction of the Panels for Expedited Ethical Review

Once the on-line system is implemented, new low-risk human ethics applications will be processed by the incoming Panels for Expedited Ethical Review (PEERs). There will be two PEERS, with PEER 1 responsible for applications covering the Faculties of Health Sciences and Science, Technology & Engineering, and PEER 2 for the Faculties of Humanities & Social Sciences, Education, and Law & Management.

Move to the On-line Risk Assessment and Application Form

New applications submitted via the on-line system, including both Human Ethics low and above low risk applications, will need to be submitted via the new On-line Risk Assessment and Application Form. Details and user guides will be available on the Research Compliance SharePoint site. Please contact the Research Compliance Unit if you would like an introduction to the on-line form for your research group or department. The first introductory sessions will start in the week 31 October.

Maintaining and Finalising Faculty Human Ethics Approval

Existing low risk projects approved by (or in the process of being reviewed by) a Faculty Human Ethics Committee (FHEC) will continue to be administered by the FHEC until the project is closed off. For these studies only, please continue to submit annual progress and final reports and requests for modifications to your FHEC Secretariat.

For any other information please contact the Research Compliance Unit.
