Physical Containment Facilities

Physical containment levels are used by the OGTR to certify facilities conducting GMO work. The levels reflect the magnitude of risk involved in undertaking the dealings.

The majority of work / research with GMOs conducted at La Trobe University is conducted in either Physical Containment Level 1 or Level 2 Facilities. The Facilities must be certified by the OGTR and checked annually by GMSC members (PC2 only). All staff / students performing work in Physical Containment facilities must be suitably trained in the requirements - the GMSC has developed an online training module which needs to be successfully completed by all researchers prior to working in such a facility.
