Research Ethics and IntegrityRecombinant DNA ResearchGenetic Manipulation Supervisory Committee (GMSC)The Genetic Manipulation Supervisory Committee is constituted according to the Gene Technology Act 2000 and reports to the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) on all gene technology research conducted at the University. The GMSC strives to protect the safety of researchers, students, staff and the general community by ensuring that gene technology research is undertaken within properly maintained facilities. The Committee reviews and assesses proposals for work involving gene technology research, inspects and certifies laboratories used for gene technology research, and provides advice to investigators and other interested parties on relevant legislation and guidelines. All research involving genetic manipulation carried out at La Trobe University must be submitted to the GMSC for consideration prior to commencement.
