Notifiable Low Risk Dealings (NLRD)

Dealings with GMOs that have been assessed as posing a low risk to people and the environment provided the risk is properly managed, are classified as Notifiable Low Risk Dealings (NLRD). NLRD's must be:
1. Assessed by the GMSC
2. Conducted by persons suitably trained in PC1 & PC2 requirements
3. Transported, stored and disposed of in accordance with the OGTR requirements - Guidelines for the Transportation, Storage and Disposal of GMOs

There are 3 types of NLRD dealings, NLRD PC1, NLRD PC2 and NLRD PC3.
NLRD dealings are described in Schedule 3 of the Regulations.

Containment

All NLRD PC1 work must be conducted in OGTR certified Physical Containment Level 1 facilities whilst NLRD PC2 work must be conducted in Physical Containment Level 2 facilities. Please note, La Trobe University does not have Physical Containment Level 3 facilities.

Application Process

Researchers planning to conduct a project classified as a NLRD need to complete an application form, OGTR NLRD record and submit them both to the GMSC for consideration.
