Dealings Not involving an Intention Release (DNIR)

Dealings with GMOs that are not exempt or NLRDs and do NOT involve intentional release into the environment are classified as DNIR. A licence must be obtained from the Office of Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) to conduct such work. Example of such dealings are described in Schedule 3 Part 3 . DNIR's must:
1. Be licenced by the OGTR
2. Be conducted in Physical Containment Facilities - Level 2 to 4 depending on risk group classification
3. Not involve release into the environment

Application Process

Researchers planning to conduct a DNIR must complete the appplication form and submit it to the GMSC for assessment. The application together with the GMSC assessment will be forwarded to the OGTR for consideration.
