Higher Degrees by Research - information for studentsCourseworkProfessional Doctorates and PhD in some Schools or Departments or Programmes include coursework that all their doctoral students are required to complete. Supervised professional work is also part of some professional doctorates. Your supervisor may also arrange for you to complete masters or honours coursework that is directly relevant to your research. These courses may include topics such as accessing and evaluating your discipline's literature, research methods, experimental or laboratory techniques, data analysis, statistics or maths for your discipline or a foreign language if you need it for your research. SeminarsStudent Learning, Research Services (the 2011 programme has not been announced as yet) and some faculties and schools provide seminars that are useful to many research students. These include topics such as writing for your examiners, how to get the best out of supervision, writing a literature review, using Endnote (bibliography software), research methodologies, statistics, publishing your research, and more. Academic Language and Learning Units (ALL)There are ALL Units in each faculty on the Melbourne campus and at each of the regional campuses. ALL units provide learing support to all students including HDR students.
