Higher Degrees by Research - information for studentsInternational StudentsIf you are an international student who has completed your enrolment you will be familiar with La Trobe International (LTI). The LTI office staff can answer many questions that you may have about your visa and immigration status in Australia, as well as questions about study at La Trobe. This page has a few important point for international students studying higher degrees by research. Student visas are issued by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) with conditions which may include: Here is a link to the DIAC postgraduate research page which has more information about student visas. The University is obliged to notify DIAC if students breach visa conditions, change courses, or discontinue their studies. If you need to extend your candidature and are an International student receiving a scholarship you have to consult La Trobe International staff, and your scholarship provider or their representative. If you experience financial difficulties that affect your ability to pay your tuition fees on time, you can apply for an extension to payment at the La Trobe International before the fees are due.
