Higher Degrees by Research - information for students
As a student for a higher research degrees you should be provided with:
- the resources required to undertake your research including access to equipment and funding for materials
- (full-time candidates) office workspace, desk, chair and lockable filing cabinet
- a mailbox within your School
- access to a telephone for work purposes during working hours
- access to laboratory and other space required for conducting your research
- access to School photocopying facilities as determined by your School
- access to essential equipment and resources including computers with standard software and applications relevant to your discipline
- access to library resources, including funding support to cover costs of obtaining library materials not available in the University Library
- written information on the resources which your School provides to postgraduate students and how to apply for, or obtain those resources
- an undertaking from the School that it will endeavour to subsidise conference travel
- information about access to counselling services, guidance in English language, computing and word processing skills and statistical advice (but note that you may have to pay for some courses such as computer skills).
