Research Services

Research Services provides support to La Trobe academic staff and higher degree research students to Faculties, Schools, Centres and Institutes of the University. We assist in: promoting our research; identifying sources of funding; developing proposals and applications; establishing contracts; managing commercial partnerships; exploiting intellectual property; managing the University's ethics research integrity standards; analysing research quality and performance; and providing support to prospective and current research higher degree students from Australia and overseas.

Research Services is organised into four broad portfolios that provide these functions:

Research Development

Supports academics in identifying external research support opportunities, applying for research funding, liaising with sponsors and collaborators and establishing research funding agreements. Research Development provides commercialisation services and manages IP issues; coordinates University participation in joint ventures, advises on licensing issues and more. Learn more

Research Compliance

Research Compliance provides policy advice and secretariat services to a number of regulatory committees. The main role of these committees is to ensure that all research is conducted within the current regulatory environments as required by state and federal authorities. Research Compliance also provides information and support to academic staff and students on ethics and related compliance requirements for research involving humans, animals and genetically modified organisms. Research Quality & Analysis

Is responsible for coordinating the collection of data relating to the University's key research performance indicators. This data forms the basis of essential external reporting requirements such as the Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC) and the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) initiative. Research Quality and Analysis also maintains the University's research information management system through which it provides reports on research performance for internal use. Learn more

Research Students

Assists Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students with all scholarship and candidature matters, including basic information needed while studying for a research degree. Research Students provides information about the essential details of HDR, resources for HDR students, seminars, varying and changing enrolment, supervision, Research Progress Panels and milestones, submission and examination of thesis.
