Collaboration and Partnership
Strong collaborations have already been established between RECCSI and other institutions / organisations. The research centre continues to welcome participation from other universities and industries. Currently, the research centre has partnerships with:
Kyoto University – Global Centre of Excellence
Global Centre of Excellence program (GCOE) and World Premier International Research centre are the two programs established by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in 2007. MEXT launched GCOE as a new project targeting all scientific fields including combined fields and new disciplines to better educate and motivate young researchers to participate in research at an international level and sharpen the competitive edge of Japan’s education and research centres. The program aims to increase the level of research in Japan’s schools by prioritising and supporting the creation of world class research centres and collaborating with other research centres across the globe thereby making Japanese schools globally competitive.
Kyoto University submitted 12 applications for the GCOE program and 6 applications were accepted and now Kyoto University plays an active role in the program. The objective of the present GCOE program at Kyoto University is “to form an international education and research centre that fosters PhD students and young researchers in the areas of computer science and information technology through advanced research. The present program has therefore established four (education and research) cores: "primordial knowledge models", "knowledge searches", "field informatics" and "knowledge grid computing" based on interdisciplinary research”. The five year GCOE program started at Kyoto University in 2007 is entitled “Informatics Education and Research Centre for Knowledge-circulating Society”. This program is jointly handled by the Graduate School of Informatics and the Academic Centre for Computing and Media Studies. The program is lead by Prof. Katsumi TANAKA. RECCSI researchers work together with Prof. Toyoaki Nishida and his team at Kyoto University in the research projects. Prof. Toyoaki Nishida is a staff member of the GCOE program at Kyoto University.
