Rebecca joined the RCLT in 2003, after completing an MA at the University of Calgary. For her PhD dissertation, she is preparing a reference grammar of Yine under the supervision of Professor Randy LaPolla. Yine is an Arawak language spoken in Peru (Departments of Ucayali, Cusco, Madre de Dios and Loreto) and Brazil (Acre). There are about 2000 Yine speakers, many of whom have access to bilingual Yine-Spanish education. Nearly all Yine also speak Spanish. The Yine practice slash-and-burn agriculture as well as hunting and fishing. Society is traditionally matrilocal.
