NEILS
2008 Accommodation
Recommended options:
1) We recommend that NEILS participants without pre-booked local accommodation stay at the conference venue, the Don Bosco Institute. Special accommodation/meals packages for NEILS 2008 participants have been arranged (Single: RS500 / Double RS350 per person / Dorm RS200 per person). Rates include breakfast and dinner (lunch and tea/snacks are provided for all NEILS 2008 participants at no additional charge). Please contact m.post@latrobe.edu.au to reserve accommodation at Don Bosco Institute. Clearly indicate the number of rooms requested, the names of all persons occupying each room, and the precise dates of arrival/departure.
2) The Gauhati University Guesthouse will reserve a limited number of beds in a mix of single and double-seated rooms at the rate of Rs. 100/day. This is an accommodation option ideally suited to students and others wishing to attend NEILS 2008 workshops; to reserve a bed at the GU Guesthouse, please email m.post@latrobe.edu.au as soon as possible.
Other options:
***Note: Please be aware that travel from central Guwahati, where most paid accommodation is located, to Gauhati University can take up to an hour by auto rickshaw, depending on traffic, and even longer by bus. We therefore strongly recommend that NEILS participants avail themselves of one of the above recommended options, and urge them to plan for extended travel time if they opt for accommodation in the city center.***
3) The Dynasty Hotel, located on S. S. Road in central Guwahati’s Fancy Bazaar, has standard rates of Rs. 2400/2800/3200 (s/d/exec), and is widely considered to be the best luxury option in Guwahati. For reservations phone (+91) (361) 251-0496/97/98/99.
4) The Assam Tourist Lodge, on Station Road in central Guwahati, is one of the better budget alternatives available. It is located within easy walking distance of the main train and bus stations, the State Museum and Library, as well as Pan Bazaar. Room rates vary (generally Rs. 200 ~ 300), and advance bookings are essential. Please contact the Assam Tourist Lodge directly at (+91) (361) 254-4474 or 254-4475 for reservations and availability.
5) There are numerous hotels and guesthouses available to suit almost any budget around Paltan Bazaar (to the immediate south of the main train and bus stations), although be aware that this area can be extremely noisy throughout the day and night.
Meals
Lunch and tea/snacks will be provided on all three days of paper presentations. Lunch will not be provided on workshop days; workshop participants are invited to take their meals at the reasonably-priced Faculty Canteen, which is conveniently located approximately 150 meters from the Department of Linguistics, or to make alternative arrangements. Breakfast and dinner are not provided on any day, excepting for Don Bosco Institute guests (see (1) above).
