Interests

Judith is a former CEO of Southern Health Care Network in Melbourne, and of Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide, and has worked in the Australian health system for 20 years in a broad range of community, hospital and government settings. A/Professor Dwyer works with colleagues who are also experienced health care managers to deliver La Trobe's health services management education programs, and her major research and consulting work is in the areas of health system governance, health policy and health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. A/Professor Dwyer is a member of the NHMRC's Health Advisory Committee, a Director of the Australian Resource Centre for Hospital Innovations (a web-based clearing house for information about innovative practice in Australian hospitals - see http://www.archi.net.au/), and a Director of Yarra Valley Water, which supplies water and sewage services to 1.5 million people in Melbourne. She holds an honorary appointment as Adjunct Professor in the Institute of Health Services Research, Monash University. Judith has a long standing interest in women's health, and was awarded the inaugural AMA Women's Health Award in 1998. She was the foundation President of Women's Hospitals Australia, the national association of leading women's hospitals, and has served on various committees of the National Health and Medical Research Council and as a Director of the Board of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.

  • Management Development in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (jointly with Associate Professor Cindy Shannon). Funded by the Cooperative Research Centre for Aboriginal Health and La Trobe University
  • Evaluation of governance reforms in South Australia (in collaboration with the Department of Health, Adelaide).
  • Evaluation of the Access Block Improvement Program, NSW Health.
