Research Partners: Northern Assessment Referral and Treatment Team (NARTT) a C.I.T. in action

Summary

This research was jointly developed by A/Professor Rae Walker, La Trobe University, and Inspector Thexton, Victoria Police, to inform the discussion involved in developing the CIT model for linking community members who come to police attention, but who really require health services to address their problems, to primary health care services. It is a very effective cross sectoral partnership arrangement in which a 'relationship bridge' between police and a specialist team in a community health centre is built. The evaluation data from the pilot programs shows the model to be very effective. At present a handful of these services exist in both urban and rural settings but the goal is to have them widely available.
