Gender Equity and Health

Researchers: Professor Vivian Lin and colleagues

Research Partner: WHO Kobe Centre

Summary

Performance measurement has become a common feature of health organisations at international and national levels. Recent international meetings on women and health and welfare systems have expressed concern about the extent to which current indicators being used by international organisations are useful for tracking gender equity and health.

Professor Vivian Lin and colleagues have undertaken a comparative evaluation for the WHO Kobe Centre on indicators of gender equity and health used by international organisations. A report on Comparative Evaluation of Indicators for Gender Equity and Health, published in February 2004, can be downloaded from the WHO Kobe Centre website: http://www.who.or.jp/women/publications/index.html

In 2005, Professor Vivian Lin and colleagues prepared a further report, funded by the Bureau of Women's Health and Gender Analysis (BWHGA), Health Canada, titled Developing Gender-Sensitive Health Indicators: Relevance and Practices.
