Health Information Management

Health Information Management - The Cornerstone of the Health System

Doctors need it, patients rely on it and it underpins government policy - the entire healthcare system relies upon quality health information.

Health Information Managers work in the "business" side of healthcare. They work in many areas including e-health (electronic health information) health classification and health research.

From 2009, La Trobe University is offering a new Health Information Management professional qualification.
This exciting degree, is unique. It opens the door to a vast range of career opportunities in health.

The Bachelor of Health Sciences and Master of Health Information Management will run over four years. After a comprehensive grounding, students in their final year can concentrate on one or two specialised areas. One of these is Health Informatics where cutting-edge IT meets Health Information Management. The course includes hands-on practical experience and a mentor scheme which links students with the profession.

Apply through VTAC, transfer from another course or come in as a mature age student (the Selection Committee will be interested in your previous studies and work experience). Non-metropolitan students looking for perspective on the career may find it useful to contact a Health Information Manager at a local hospital.

For Health Information Management Professionals, there are short courses available online, face-to-face and by distance.
