School of Public HealthGestalt Therapy ProgramMaster of Gestalt TherapyThe course is taken over one year full-time or the equivalent part-time, and is designed for mental health and human services professionals such as those involved in counselling, psychotherapy or consultancy. Gestalt therapy is an approach to working with people that is "field sensitive" (contextual and holistic), phenomenological (subjective and descriptive), dialogic and contactful (relational). Contemporary thinking about gestalt principles ensures that the approach is more than just a form of therapy, it has many applications. In particular, gestalt is a method of self-exploration that supports people to make creative adjustments to the challenges of life on personal, interpersonal and community levels. The program provides specialist education and training in the gestalt approach to working with people. The course aims to produce competent, ethical and creative practitioners capable of working in a range of health, education and community settings. Graduates of the program can expect to have developed significant personal awareness and a high level of competency in this specialist area.
