Research Tools - Usability / Simulation Laboratory

We have developed a number of products and systems we use in our research. The two main data-gathering platforms are the Networked Fire Chief microworld software and the Head-Mounted Video system used for capturing events from the first-person perspective of the participant.

The supporting techniques for enhancing the data are the Two-Stage Cued Recall Debrief and the Video-Based Eye Tracking.

A purpose built usability / simulation laboratory has been designed for use when required.

Usability / Simulation Laboratory

The CDRG laboratory has two subject/observation rooms separated by one way glass, making it ideal for simulation experimentation as well as usability testing. There is also a smaller room dedicated to eye-tracking experiments. Data projection and full video recording facilities further enhance our capabilities to run large scale simulation experiments.

Other laboratory facilities include high performance computers for student use and an extensive endnote database and library of dynamic decision making, cognitive engineering and general human factors literature.
