Set Your Body Free: Body Image Therapy for Women 35 and
Up
Program
Outcomes
The original
Set Your Body Free program was offered to women aged between
18 and 35 and compared the outcomes of women who attended the
eight session program either in a face-to-face setting or over
the internet, with a control group.
Overall the outcomes
were very positive.
At the end of the program,
women who attended group therapy had considerably improved their
body dissatisfaction, compared themselves with other women to
a lesser extent, reduced their avoidance of behaviours that
prompt body image concern and no longer accepted the thin ideal
promoted by the media to the same extent.
In addition, following
group therapy women improved their eating behaviours; they engaged
in unhealthy dieting practices to a lesser degree and reduced
their overeating and binge eating.
Changes in psychological
concerns also occurred, with reductions in depression and anxiety
and improvements in self-esteem.

about the outcomes please see the research
paper (pdf 1 MB) describing
the study.
