Bachelor of Psychological Science
– a science degree with choice

Since 1972 the School of Psychological Science at La Trobe University has offered the Bachelor of Psychological Science, and the degree has earned an enviable reputation for the quality of its training and of its graduates leading to excellent professional opportunities. The course is offered at the Bendigo and Albury/Wodonga campuses in addition to the Bundoora campus.

Why study Psychology at La Trobe University?

There are four main reasons why La Trobe is the best place for students to study psychology:

  1. Unlike many other Universities you will be enrolled in the Bachelor of Psychological Science Degree rather than a generalist degree such Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science Degree.
  2. A small intake of students means that staff of the School of Psychological Science get to know the students well; this is not possible when hundreds of students are enrolled in a course.
  3. Our curriculum focuses on 'real world' skills such a group/team work, oral presentations, computing skills, report writing, critical thinking, and interpretation of research findings. These skills are in no way specific to being a psychologist and can be transferred to many different careers, such as human resource/personnel, managerial roles, research/information analysis or teaching.
  4. Our degree structure allows students to choose the subject they wish to major in alongside Psychology _ this subject can be almost any subject taught on campus, such as media studies, a language, women's studies, computing and so on. This flexibility on subject choice is not offered by all Universities and has been a very attractive feature of our degree since its inception.

And our students rate the BPsySc highly. In a Graduate Careers Council of Australia Survey (2002), of 6 Victorian university psychology bachelor degrees, our graduates ranked the course as highest in generic skills and overall satisfaction.
