  • Septemer 2008 - Dr Timothy Scott speaks at the opening of Mobile:Exile
    Dr Timothy Scott opened Mobile:Exile, an exhibition of the collaborative art of Paul Northam and Seung Hi Lee at the Phyllis Palmer Gallery, La Trobe University, Bendigo.

  • August 2008 – Dr Timothy Scott addressed Queensland Society for the Study of Religion
    Dr Timothy Scott delivered his paper, Symbolic Exegesis, at the
    Alternative Expressions of the Numinous Conference, held at the University of Queensland, 15 - 17 August 2008.

  • August 2008 – Mr Peter Chang addressed European Association for Chinese Studies in Sweden
    Dr Peter Chang delivered his paper, An Exegesis of Wang Yang-Ming’s Unique Conception of Liang-Chih, at the XVIIth Biennial Conference of the European Association for Chinese Studies: “China Centre Stage” at Lund University, Sweden, 6 – 10 Aug 2008.

  • July 2008 - Mr Peter Chang addressed Asian Studies Association of Australia
    Dr Peter Chang addressed the Asian Studies Association of Australia, 17th Biennial Conference: Is this the Asian Century? at Monash University, 1-3 July 2008. His paper title was Comparing the Confucian and Christian Worldviews: Perspective from Neo-Confucianist Wang Yang-ming (1472-1529 CE) and Anglican bishop Joseph Butler (1692-1752 CE).
  • July 2008 - Mr Chang at the Australasian Association of Philosophy Conference
    Dr Peter Chang delivered The Equality of All Men and Inalienable Rights Doctrines, A Comparative Confucian and Christian Perspectives, to the Australasian Association of Philosophy Conference, at LaTrobe University, Bundoora, 6 – 11 July 2008.
  • June 2008 - Mr Peter Chang addressed International Global Ethics Association
    Dr Peter Chang will deliver his paper, A Confucian-Christian Perspective on the Challenges of Global Pluralism, to the Second Biennial Conference of the International Global Ethics Association at Deakin University, 26 – 28 Jun 2008.
  • June 2008 - Mr Chang spoke at Globalisation for the Common Good
    Dr Peter Chang delivered his paper A Comparative Analysis of the Confucian and Christian Worldviews, at the 7th International Conference at Trinity College (University of Melbourne). The conference theme was Globalisation for the Common Good, 30 June – 4 July 2008.
  • 26th June 2008:Official launch of Eye of the Heart. Venue: La Trobe University Visual Arts Centre.
  • June 2008 - $750 Theosophical Society Perennial Philosophy Essay Prize Submissions are now open for the La Trobe University Bendigo / Theosophical Society Perennial Philosophy undergraduate and postgraduate prize. Prizes of $750 will be awarded for (a) the best undergraduate essay of at least 3,000 words, and (b) the best postgraduate essay of at least 5,000 words, on any aspect of the perennial philosophy.

  • June 4th - Spirituality in the Pub - A forum for conversation
    Speakers Brian Coman and Roger Sworder spoke on Social Justice - Private property and public spirituality (are material goods and working for them a hindrance to a Spiritual Life) at the Foundry hotel complex High Street Bendigo.

    Congratulations to postgraduate student Ann Van Ryn on being awarded the WJC Banks Prize for 2008. Awarded annually to a graduate or graduand of the Bendigo campus who is undertaking full-time study at the Bendigo campus, enrolled as a Master by research, or Doctor of Philosophy candidate.

  • March 2008 – Ananda Coomaraswamy Essay Prize
    Eye of the Heart and the Philosophy and Religious Studies program announces the Ananda Coomaraswamy Essay Prize for the best essay on a traditional symbol or symbolism. Prizes are offered for best essay in an open category and best post-graduate essay. Each winner receives their choice of books from the catalogues of Fons Vitae Publishing and World Wisdom Books, up to the value of $400 (US).
  • February 2008 – Winners of the LTU Bendigo / Theosophical Society Perennial Philosophy Essay Prize
    Congratulations to Mark Stone, winner of the undergraduate prize, and Graeme Castleman, winner of the postgraduate prize. Both Mark and Graeme receive $750 for their outstanding essays. The judges would also like to commend the following people for their entries: Travis Edwards, Ben Foran and Paul Weeks.
  • January - February 2008

    Dr Rodney Blackhirst returns from Aligarh, India, where he spent one month as a guest lecturer at Aligarh Muslim University.   • January 2008 - National Convention of the Theosophical Society
    Harry Oldmeadow was the keynote speaker at the 2008 National Convention of the Theosophical Society in Australia, held at St Mark's College, Adelaide, 12-19 January. The general theme of the Convention was "The Perennial Philosophy." Harry presented two formal talks at the convention: "Spiritual Aspects of the Environmental Crisis" and "Frithjof Schuon and the Perennial Philosophy". He was also able to meet with members of the Theosophical Society executive which is now sponsoring the two Perennial Philosophy Prizes within the Arts Program Bendigo, each worth $750 and to be offered annually.
    The inuagural prize-winners will be announced in the next few weeks.
