Honours

honours

Honours is a further year of undergraduate study, available to qualified students who have completed a basic pass degree.

An Honours degree is the normal prerequisite for entry to higher degree studies (Master by research and doctoral courses). When successfully completed, it is usually awarded as a first class, second class (upper division), second class (lower division) or third class degree.

Both La Trobe students and those who have completed their undergraduate degree at another higher education provider are eligible to apply to undertake Honours at La Trobe. Students may also need to have completed prerequisite studies at second and third year level.

Honours students complete a thesis, an independent research project, or a major project along with a coursework component.

Whatever your motivation for undertaking Honours, you must be prepared for a challenging year – it will be the biggest you’ve faced so far in your academic career. One of the keys to being successful in Honours is the ability and willingness to work independently, and to manage your time effectively.

Information on Honours year programs is available in individual course descriptions in Find a Course.
