Gaining
a thorough understanding of family history with regard to vascular complications
can be useful for diagnosis and prognosis. Many conditions have a degree
of congenital basis, whether it be the predominating factor or more minor
such as “genetically susceptible”.
Common conditions with generic components are hypertension,
heart disease, atherosclerosis, hyperlipidaemia,
renal failure and type 2 diabetes (Nelson,
1992; Anderson, 1999; Cotran, 1999).
