Skin Adnexa

 

Defined as appendages to skin:

   hair, arrector pili muscle, sebaceous glands, nails, sweat glands.

 

 

Pilosebaceous apparatus

 

 

3 types identified:

  -lanugo, vellus, terminal

 

 

Phases of hair growth:

  -Anagen

  -Catagen

  -Telogen

 

 

Arrector pili muscle

  -Creates ‘gooseflesh' known as cutis anserine

 

 

Sebaceous gland


-May be unilobular or multilobular

-Sebum secretion is ‘holocrine’ process

-Gland function influenced by hormones
