aim of this subject is to develop student’s knowledge of the
special populations that are seen in podiatric clinical practice.
The
content covered in this subject are:

Sports
Medicine
Gerontology
The
learning objectives of this subject that students are expected to
demonstrate are:
1) Understand the disciplines of paediatric, sports medicine and
gerontology and the role of the podiatrist in these disciplines
2) Be able to function competently in the multidisciplinary environments
of paediatrics, sports medicine and gerontology
3) Understand the assessment and management issues of patients presenting
in podiatric clinical practice in the discipline of paediatrics,
sports medicine and gerontology
4) Describe the aetiology, pathology, clinical features, and management
of the podiatric pathologies that occur in the disciplines of paediatric,
sports medicine and gerontology

(semester two):
Tuesdays 1.00AM-3.00MD in HS2-223
Fridays 2.00-4.00PM in HS2-222
(PHE3ARM - Research Methods will be 10.00-12.00 in GS217)
Teaching approach:
A variety of approaches to learning are used. Core content will be outlined in the lectures with most of the content for Paediatrics, Gerontology and Sports Medicine will be available as 3 manuals from the bookshop. Class time will be spent on a number of activities that encourage interaction with the written content. Additional books and journal articles are held by the library and will need to be referred to for written assignments.
