6.13 INTEROSSEI

Symptoms

• Patient may complain of tightness, numbness or pain in the dorsal and/or plantar aspect of the second metatarsophalangeal joint and digit.

• Active or latent TrPs commonly occur in the presence of digital deformities.

 

Trigger Point Examination

• Dorsal and plantar interossei are considered as a functional unit because of the impossibility of palpating each one individually.

• Taut bands may be palpated against the adjacent metatarsal.

 

Associated Trigger Points

• Usually, several deep intrinsic muscles are involved simultaneously.
