Mobilisation of the Sesamoids

Instructions:

1. Flex the patient's knee to approximately 90°

2. Place the lateral aspect of the patient's foot against your stomach.

2. In this mobilisation, you are trying to encourage medial movement of the sesamoids.

3. Line up your two thumbs end to end, then place them on the lateral plantar aspect of the 1st MTPJ.

4. With a fair amount of pressure, try to push the sesamoids medially (the whole movement is only about 2cm, with the skin folding up as you perform it).
