Manipulation of the Navicular

Instructions:

1. Invert the foot to maximum (about the STJ & MTJ) with one hand, then hold this position with a hand around the forefoot.

2. Place the thenar eminence (the bottom of your palm close to your thumb) of your other hand over the plantar aspect of the navicular.

3. Make sure your elbows/forearms are lined up approximately parallel so that you can efficiently deliver a single quick thrust to the talonavicular joint. This often does not require a great deal of force.

4. This often makes a cavitation sound.

5. Move on to the next manipulation!
