Mobilisation of the first metatarsal in the transverse plane

Instructions:

1. Flex the patient's knee to 90°

2. Stabilise the lateral aspect of the foot for this manipulation (basically you're going to be abducting the forefoot on the rearfoot in the transverse plane particularly at the 1st MT-cuneiform joint) by cupping one hand around the lateral aspect of the foot just proximal to the styloid process.

3. Between the thumb and index finger of your other hand, place the neck of the 1st MT.

4. Perform a single, short thrust.
