Mobilisation of the first metatarsal cuneiform joint

Instructions:

1. Flex the patient's knee to 90°

2. Stabilize the cuneiform by cupping one hand over this bone on the medial aspect of the foot (find the 1stMT-cuneiform joint line, then move just proximal to this).

3. With your other hand, grab the head of the 1st MT with your thumb and forefinger (or more fingers so that you can dorsi- and plantarflex the joint).

4. Gently at first, start to dorsi- and plantarflex the joint to its end ROM. After 6-8 times, then proceed to move the joint in a clockwise and anticlockwise rotation, then in a side-to-side motion.
