HYPERKERATOSIS

           atrophy of fibro-fatty padding

 

 

           bony prominences

 

 


 
 
 
 

Pathogenesis

 

• Mitosis increases but NOT desquamation

 

 

        -Ischaemia

 

 

        -Reactive hyperaemia

 

 

        -Chronic inflammation = fibrosis

 


 
 
 
 

Clinical appearance

 

• Thickening of stratum corneum

 

 

• Yellow

 


 
 
 
 

Common sites


• Plantar metatarsophalangeal joints

 

• (MTPJ’s)

 

• Periphery of heel

 

• Apicies of toes

 

• Dorsal interphalangeal joints (IPJ’s)

 

• Plantar IPJ hallux
