The diabetes mellitus section of the POD31PMD consists of six lectures. The lecture notes and associated resources are here (students are expected to print these and bring them to the lecture):

1. Introduction to Diabetes mellitus/ Epidemiology of diabetes mellitus/ Aetiology of diabetes mellitus/ Pathophysiology of diabetes mellitus

2. Complications of diabetes/ Diabetic neuropathy

3. Psychosocial aspects of diabetes mellitus/ Management of diabetes mellitus/ Special groups and situations in those with diabetes mellitus/Education & Self management of diabetes/ Delivery of diabetes care

4. Introduction to diabetic foot complications/ risk factors for diabetic foot complications/ pathophysiology of diabetic foot complications

5. Charcot's neuroarthropathy/ assessment of the diabetic foot complications

6. Treatment and prevention of diabetic foot complications

 

Learning resources:

Several resources are available for students to help facilitate learning for this subject:

a) The lecture notes provided above and links to online resources in the notes. Please bring these with you to the lectures.

b) A manual is available from the bookshop on Diabetes Mellitus and the Foot - the relevant chapters in this manual are referred to in the above lecture notes

c) The library has a comprehensive collection of books and journal articles on the diabetic foot.

d) As part of the assessment for POD31PMD, students are required to complete an online learning course on 'Update on Diabetes Melllitus'. The course is at Learning Online at LaTrobe. Please see the subject co-ordinator for your password.
