Psoriatic Arthritis

Psoriatic arthritis is a sero-negative arthropathy which commonly effects the feet. There is assymetrical involvement with the distal interphalangeal joints being most commonly effected as well as the interphalangeal joint of the hallux and the calcaneus. Radiographic imaging displays distal tuft resorption, periostitis, normal widening of joint spaces and normal mineralisation as compared to Rheumatoid arthritis. There is also the classic 'pencil-in-cup' deformity of the metatarsophalangeal joints.

The above radiographs display the pencil-in-cup deformity where there is thinning of the shafts and widening of the base of proximal phalanx.
