What do our students say?

Laura
I chose to study at La Trobe’s Bendigo campus because I believe the university is well placed for students in my field to carry out work placement in the neighbouring smaller towns and secondly, the fact that La Trobe is the only university in the whole of Australia that offers my course for two years. Being in a foreign country for at least two years enables one to learn the country’s unique culture, appreciate the friendliness of its citizens, acclimatize to the country, travel around and much more.

La Trobe has created a balance for me in theory and practice which I have wanted to achieve in my study. Networking with professionals in the local council and non governmental institutions in Bendigo has helped me enjoy the practical part of my course.

Bridget
My particular interest is in urban water management and its relationship to urban planning, public policy and community development. My goals are to better understand how regional planning issues and restrictions are ever more closely linked to the realities of water supply. My hope is to be able to contribute to the development and implementation of solutions which will support sustainable urban growth in the region and throughout Victoria.

The program at La Trobe University’s Bendigo campus is of particular interest to me, as the lecturers not only pursue academic interests in urban planning and policy, but are also participating members in industry. This gives the program a practical element that can be a rarity in university programs. The benefit to students is that real life scenarios are brought into the classroom. I am very satisfied with the materials, the instruction and the insights into the complex field of urban and community planning.
