Avoiding plagiarism
As a student, you’ve probably heard about plagiarism already. If so, you would know it is something that the University and the broader academic community take very seriously.
Basically the University values honesty and so penalises cheating. If you cheat, the University will take action. You could be warned, penalised, and stopped from completing your studies in serious cases.
The University also has a responsibility to teach you how to use other people's work in appropriate ways. You will be taught how to use evidence in your writing so that your academic opinions are supported.
These pages will tell you about plagiarism and how to avoid it. They will also explain how you can use other people's words and ideas in your own work.
