Not a bunch of mercenaries ready to strip you
of your ready cash! We are a student-run society based in the School
of Physics at La Trobe University. Our membership is not confined to
physics students .... in fact, we encourage other people to
join!
Membership in 2002 topped 150 people and we are
one of the best value societies on campus (all this for only $10 per
year).
We know what you are thinking ... physics and
the Physics Society are just for those brainy folks with no social
life!
Wrong!
Find out the real truth - all the really fun
stuff is easy to deal with, in fact you don't need to study physics
at all.
So, what does the
Physics Society do?
- Regular social events during the semester,
usually at lunchtime.
- Guest speakers on topics which involve
physics. Past topics include diverse areas such as:
- bloodstain patterns at crime
scenes
- the history of physics in
Australia
- the physics of sport
- Regular astronomy nights are held using the
School of Physics telescope (10" reflector).
- Four PHYSOC BBQ's open to
members! The first occuring in the year is free to all
members. The biggest is held during the last week of semester 2
and involves comsuming as much food and beer as possible before
the serious business of exam study begins!
- The Physics Coffee Lounge runs during these
events, as well as in O-week, and on Open Day
Plus .... anything our members want us to
organise. We want your ideas! Email
us!
