Honours Program

The Honours degree consists of a fourth-year of full-time study after completing a three year pass degree.

Depending on your previous studies, you may instead be eligible to take a Masters Preliminary.

As well as preparing you for post-graduate study an honours degree in Philosophy may give you an edge in the employment market because the skills you will develop are valuable generally and not just for philosophical study.

If your would like to be considered for selection into Honours at the end of your third-year of studies at La Trobe, you should apply to the Philosophy Honours Coordinator by late November in the year prior to commencing the Honours year, or early June for mid-year intake.

To apply for Honours or a Masters Preliminary you will need to submit a completed Honours/Masters Preliminary Application form for Current La Trobe Students.

We also welcome applications from those who have attended other Australian and international universities. In this case applications must be made directly to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Upon request the Faculty office will send an application form out to you. You should also submit a completed Honours/Masters Preliminary Expression of Interest form for non-La Trobe students to the Philosophy Honours Co-ordinator by late November for start of year intake or early June for mid-year intake.
