Pharmacy and Applied Science at La Trobe University, Bendigo

Dr Michael Angove
Head of School

La Trobe University has one of the oldest histories in pharmacy and science in Victoria. Although the School of Pharmacy and Applied Science was formed in 2005, the first pharmacy degree was taught at the Bendigo College of Mines, La Trobe's antecedent institution, from 1879 to the mid-1930's. Our Bachelor of Science degree also has a long history in the region.

But it really is our modern approach that I want to tell you about - modern in our concept of producing innovative courses, whether they are in Pharmacy or in Science, modern in our approach to teaching and research.

We believe we are a friendly and open School with each member of staff placing high emphasis on teamwork and teaching and research. Being small has advantages and we take pride in producing graduates who seem to be highly employable in the fields of pharmacy and various scientific disciplines.

I look forward to meeting you one day, to personally welcome you to this lovely campus in this thriving regional City of Bendigo.

$64.1 million has been allocated by the Federal Government’s the Education Investment
Fund for the establishment of the La Trobe Institute for Molecular Sciences (LIMS). The Institute will support, expand and extend the teaching and research work of the School of Molecular Sciences at La Trobe.

Our programs
  • Courses. Find out about our two Pharmacy degrees (one with honours) and our Science courses.
  • Research. Our research is multifaceted, and is organised into two main streams - "biotechnology" and "drug research" (the latter including drug metabolism, pharmacology and physiology). This uses the talents of all of our staff to great advantage.
