Employee Assistance Program
What is an Employee Assistance Program?
To ensure that staff at La Trobe University have access to contemporary means to address workplace
issues, or personal issues which impact on the workplace, the University has committed resources
to support an Employee Assistance Program.
Who can use the EAP?
The program is available to all employees of La Trobe University and their immediate families
(living under the same roof).
What sort of difficulties can it be used for?
An EAP can provide assistance in the following areas:
- Work-related issues
- Managing change
- Interpersonal conflicts
- Emotional stress
- Anxiety and depression
- Relationships and family issues
- Financial difficulties
- Drug / alcohol and other dependency problems
- Critical incident / post trauma counselling
- Grief and loss
- Career transition issues
- Health and legal issues
How can the EAP help?
The EAP can help you to:
- Assess the issues concerning you
- Provide counselling, coaching and education to deal with these issues.
- Identify options / alternatives for problem resolution.
- Facilitate referrals for longer term assistance where required.
How can I use the EAP?
A referral can be initiated through:
- Self Referral
The EAP service can be accessed by you directly via a 24 hour, 7 day a week pager service.
- Supervisor / Manager
A supervisor / manager may suggest the EAP. However, it is voluntary and only you can decide
whether or not to use it.
- Friends / Peers
A friend or a peer may suggest the voluntary use of the service for an emergency problem.
- Personnel
Personnel may recommend the use of the EAP to help parties in a dispute to resolve differences.
- Equity & Access
The Equity & Access unit may advise and assist you in contacting the EAP for
ongoing personal support.
EAP Assistance
- Is Confidential
The program maintains complete confidentiality for all who access the service. A consultant
will not communicate issues unless authorised by the individual.
- Is Free
Short – term, solution orientated assistance is free to employees and immediate members
of their family (under the same roof). Where an individual is referred to an external support
service, the cost incurred is the responsibility of the employee.
- Is Voluntary
The employee decides whether or not to access the EAP.
- Will Not Jeopardise Your Job
The aim of the EAP is to assist the individual without jeopardising employment conditions,
job security or career opportunities.
How do I contact the EAP?
Resolutions’ consultants are contactable through a 24 hour 7 day a week pager service.
Dial 9529 6600 and leave your name, contact number and place of employment. A consultant will
be in contact with you within 1 hour of placing the call.
