La Trobe University is proud to support Youth Foundation 3081 – an initiative to help young people in West Heidelberg make a real difference in their community.
La Trobe joins the Bendigo Bank, Banyule Community Health and Banyule City Council in partnership building on our ongoing work in our neighborhood with local schools and the West Heidelberg Community Legal Service.
Young people learn valuable life skills as they become ‘grant makers’ in their local community, both identifying and supporting local community projects and inspiring others.
The most significant outcome is that young people in West Heidelberg can move from asking the question, “What can I get?” to “What can I give?”
This is life changing and reinforces the input of schools as learning environments. For those outside the school system it’s often a rare access point to meaningful community engagement and their potential as agents of change.
