Bendigo Spirit

In October 2010 La Trobe University and Bendigo Spirit entered into a partnership agreement that sees both organisations supporting each other’s efforts in the Bendigo community.
Bendigo Spirit – which in 2007 became the third Victorian team to enter the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) – works alongside La Trobe to actively promote the benefits that arise from participating in sport and attending university.
Through this partnership players from the Bendigo Spirit attend a wide range of events, including La Trobe Open Days, and conduct basketball clinics at schools throughout the Bendigo area.
Another important aspect of this partnership is the opportunity for La Trobe students to undertake internship roles and other volunteer opportunities with the Spirit.
Student internship roles cover a wide range of areas including health science, sports management, marketing, business, and human resources. With the Bendigo Spirit travelling throughout Australia, the partnership also delivers valuable marketing and brand recognition benefits for the University, especially for its regional Victorian campuses.
Through this partnership, both La Trobe University and Bendigo Spirit are committed to promoting the benefits of sport and education and providing opportunities for young people in regional Victoria.
