Workshop details

ADVENTURE STORY WORKSHOP

The adventure genre offers great scope for students to practise problem solving in storytelling, writing realistic action scenes and creating a compelling narrative arc. Adventure fiction ranges from urban stories to historical to outback adventure and more.

SCIENCE FICTION AND FUTURISTIC STORY WORKSHOP

Imagining the possibilities of how our world will change in the future can be thrilling. Combining this with creating rounded characters, and a plot to drive readers to the end of the story, this workshop delivers the tools to bring imagination to life in story form.

CONTEMPORARY STORY WORKSHOP

Set at school, on a bus, at home or in a café or a park, moving through such places, the contemporary story might be drama or mystery or romance or humour. Students learn to create believable characters and challenge them with the trials and temptations of contemporary life.

STORIES OF OTHER WORLDS WORKSHOP

Fantasy, dystopias, swords or light sabres or magical powers – the possibilities are endless. Students practise building another world and populating it with humans and perhaps other creatures, while developing a storyline for what might happen in this world of their own creation.

MASTERCLASS WORKSHOP

Students who are already writing and enthusiastic about storytelling bring a draft of a story. With guidance from the workshop leader they work together on structural and copy editing, refining story and pushing their talents further.
