Department of Clinical Vision Sciences
Kerry Fitzamuarice
BACKGROUND
Associate Professor Kerry Fitzmaurice is currently the Head of the School of Orthoptics and contributes to teaching in the areas of retinal function, pathology and vision rehabilitation.
Kerry's major interest in Orthoptics is vision rehabilitation. Before joining the staff at La Trobe University she was the Senior Orthoptist at the Royal Victorian Institute for the Blind and was responsible for developing the role of the orthoptist in rehabilitation in this agency. Kerry's expertise in low vision rehabilitation is recognised by Low Vision Agencies throughout Australia and she has been invited to participate in training Orthoptists in this field internationally.
Kerry has developed two computer software packages in pursuit of her interest in computer technology assisting people with vision impairment. EccVue is a program to provide training in a specialised technique of rehabilitation called eccentric viewing. VizTest is a program to facilitate assessment of functional vision in severely multi-handicapped children.

RESEARCH INTERESTS
Use of computer technology to assist persons with vision impairment.
Factors which cause visual fatigue in children with vision impairment.
Eye movements in response to tactile stimuli.
Eccentric viewing as a rehabilitation technique.
