Clinical Placements
Clinical education and practice is a significant part of the Bachelor of Orthoptic and Ophthalmic Sciences undergraduate course. Students receive approximately 684 hours of clinical training and 'patient time' in affiliated clinical facilities (including public hospitals, and numerous private ophthalmology pracitces). The facilities are:
- in and around metropolitan Melbourne, including the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital, the Royal Children's Hospital, the Northern Hospital and the Austin amongst other public hospitals;
- cities across provincial Victoria (Albury-Wodonga, Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Mornington, Warrnambool);
- interstate across Australia (Adelaide, Alice Springs, Brisbane and surrounding coasts, Far North Queensland cities, Canberra, Hobart, Perth and more...);
- and overseas destinations having close ties with our Department. In recent years, students have undertaken placements in Canada, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, U.K. (London, Liverpool) and U.S.A. (San Diego, New York).
