Department of Clinical Vision Sciences

The Department of Clinical Vision Sciences, (formerly Orthoptics) offers programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in clinical vision science, in particular the discipline of orthoptics.

The Bachelor of Health Science / Master of Orthoptics and Graduate Entry Master of Orthoptics programs enable graduates to obtain a professional qualification and work as an orthoptist. An orthoptist is an eyecare professional who specialise in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of vision and eye disorders. Orthoptists work in specialist eye clinics and public hospitals, where they work with ophthalmic surgeons to monitor eye disease and provide treatment, including prescribing glasses for children and adult patients. Orthoptists are also integral to the provision of rehabilitation services in low vision agencies and may work in private orthoptic practice. Orthoptists are also employed in eye and vision research centres where they play an important role.

We are one of only two training schools for orthoptics in Australia. Our graduates are welcomed throughout Australia, South East Asia, North America and countries in Europe.
