Oral Health

The Bachelor of Oral Health Science was introduced in 2006 to meet the oral health needs of regional and rural areas.

Bachelor of Oral Health Science

This course qualifies students to register as dental hygientists and dental therapists. It has a strong focus on public health in rural and regional Victoria. The course is taught over six (6) semesters and has an intake of thirty (30) students.

Students undertake a number of units in common with nursing, public health, social work and pharmacy. Specific oral health and health sciences units are taught in the first two years to help underpin the theoretical and clinical practice of oral health. Students are required to complete pre-clinical and clinical oral health units over the six semesters of the course. They gain clinical experience working with a variety of patient, primarily in public health settings in rural areas.

Entry Requirements

Selection for Year 12 - prerequisities a study score of least 25 in English or 30 English (ESL), study score of 25 in one of biology, chemistry or physical education. Selection based on ENTER - refer to the VTAC Guide. Access to the guide is through the 'Quicklinks' menu above.

Regional bonus is applied to this course for applicants whose home postcode is from regional Australia. Consideration is also based on the VTAC Special Entry Access Schemes.
