Students have come from all parts of Australia and from Scandinavia, North America, and Asia . The course draws on the Centre of Outdoor and Environment's extensive offerings of units from its undergraduate courses. The course has a substantial practical component, including field trips and expeditions; most students complete more than 50 days in the field. The course begins in mid-February, (two weeks prior to the undergraduate courses), with some core classes taken in block mode and initial practical work. Thereafter students join classes and practical trips with the Schools' 300+ undergraduate students. Students accepted into the course are expected to be highly motivated and to have established, organised, study habits. The course has long-established reputation for combining challenging theory with depth of practical experience.
